Carretera Austral - What's in my panniers
To end up the Carretera Austral part of my trip, here is a list of the things I carried. For my trip I carried 4 panniers and a handlebar bag. The handlebar bag was mostly for my camera, camera spare battery and wallet. The tent was strapped on the rear rack, though with the gravel and friction the waterproof bag got a few holes.
Front panniers
In the front panniers I carried:
- Stove: Soto Amicus
- Cook set: Snow Peak Trek 900
- Cup: Snow Peak mug
- Foldable sink: Sea to Summit sink
- Washing-up liquid: Sea to Summit - Camp Kitchen Pot Scrubber and Soap
- Salt and chili powder
- Spoon, fork, knife and chopsticks
- Propane gas canister
- Toilet paper
- Dishcloth
- First Aid kit (disinfectant, bandages, second skin patch)

Sunglasses
- Sleeping bag: Sea to Summit - Spark II
- Sleeping mat: Sea to Summit - Ether Light XT Insulated
- Sleeping bag liner: Sea to Summit - Reactor Liner (new version in link)
- Inflatable pillow: Sea to Summit - Aeros
- Power banks x2: Adata 10000 mAh
- Headlamp: Black Diamond
Rear Panniers
I stored my clothes inside Ortlieb Packing cubes, including toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrush, body wash), and clothes:
- Waterproof jacket and over trousers (Montbell)
- 1 jersey (Pedaled) and 1 t-shirt
- 2 long sleeves merino base layers and 1 sleeveless
- 2 shorts (Pearl Izumi and Pedaled), hiking trousers (Pedaled) and 1 pair leg warmers (Atlas)
- 2 pairs of merino socks and 1 pair of water proof socks
- 2 Long finger gloves
- 1 Down jacket (Montbell) and 1 cycling warm jacket (Pedaled)
- 1 Buff
- 1 Cap
- 2 sets of underwear
- Hiking shoes (in the other pannier) and cycling SPD shoes
- Flip-flops (in the other pannier)
In the other pannier I carried mostly tools:
- Pump (Topeak Road Morph G)
- Patching kit (levers, patches
- Multiple tools: wrenches, mutil-tools, Swiss Army knife
- Trowel
- Inner tubes x2
- Duck tape
- Lock
- Disposable gloves
- Chain
- Brake pads, bolts and other spares
- Chargers and cables for phone and camera battery
I spread the food in the panniers, but mostly in the pannier with the tools.
